Geography lesson

We walked around the ‘purple’ route at Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve (NNR) this morning. After a stormy night, it was a very bright sunny day (very unexpected) so we enjoyed being out in the landscape. Most of the NNR is covered by limestone pavement made up of clints and grykes. These are limestone rocks (clints) separated haphazardly by deep fissures (grykes). Lots of interesting plants and small stunted trees grow in the grykes.
