Caen Hill (Monday 31st January 2022)
At Caen Hill this heron was deep in conversation with two swans when I approached this lunchtime. The heron saw me and flew off, so this was taken near to the other side of the pound behind Jack Dalby Lock where he landed. The swans then followed me over, came on land and walked up to me in the hopes of treats, which were swiftly dashed.
It seemed quiet on the canal but there were a number of black-headed gulls (as yet without black, or rather brown heads), a couple of lesser black-backed, some mallards and moorhens and one tufted duck. There were also plenty of rooks in the trees. A lady asked me what I had spotted and then told me where a resident kingfisher was to be seen when present.
