Police ‘call post’

Last day in London and a last walk along the Victoria Embankment where this old police box stands. These boxes were made in the 1920’s and 600 were sited all over the City of London. They enabled the public to call the police station and were also used to contact the police in the area by flashing the red signal light on top of the box. A first aid kit was stored in the bottom of the box. They were decommissioned in the 1960’s and now only 8 remain as a reminder of how policing used to be.
