Common Meganser, Male

Suddenly these feel quite common at the Gouille where we swim, there are at least a dozen this winter. They are beautiful birds, even in the pouring rain.

No skiing for me for 3 weeks, it seems I have a 7cm superficial thrombosis in my left calf muscle, so my mountain photos might be a bit restricted especially as the train to Bretaye was derailed by an avalanche today (extra … photo from a local newspaper) in an area where there has never been an avalanche before. Fortunately there was no one on board and no one on the piste. Thank goodness it didn’t happen in the February holidays!
