Mt Peel Church
Yesterday had a fantastic day out with our photographic group. In spite of the weather forecast we headed out to go up as far as Mesopotamia Station at the headwaters of the Rangitata Gorge
We had all weathers thrown at us , heavy rain to start with then incredible heat and gales.
My main blip is the historic Church on Mt Peel Station. It was badly shattered in the Canterbury earthquakes but has been restored beautifully. The stained glass windows are exquisite . My favourite being Suffer The Little Children to come unto me.
Behind the church are many more graves that help to tell the history of the early days of the station . The land being taken up by two English Men Tripp and Acland and their descendants are still there.
We carried on up to Mesopotamia Station which has been farmed for generations by The Prouting family. It was blowing so hard which made our many stops difficult getting in and out of the car, fighting with the doors
My photos from there are in extras and if you look at Raine's entry for yesterday you will see some cracking shots. Notice the gale blowing the dust out of the river bed
I came home with an incredibly sore back which didn't allow me to sleep until the early hours with the help of Ibuprofen and panadol. Miraculously I awoke and could move freely again but have been taking it slowly today. Hence a late entry for yesterday. Its now 5.30 pm so need to go and hunt for an entry for today
