The Edge of the Wold

Ruffled2

The wind has picked up a little again today, perhaps ahead of the incoming colder weather.  This male duck had pulled himself up onto the log perch for a preen, and the wind was ruffling his feathers.  A reward is offered for the first correct identification.

I popped out to Leighton Moss for a change of scenery and to revive my lagging bird list.  And I did manage to add two new species for 2022.

The RSPB thoughtfully provided viewing slats on either side of the Causeway Hide, which has been a bit of a boon in Covid times, and I'm still slightly nervous of spending too much time in a hide even though they are well ventilated.  This was taken through one of the slats, while I couldn't but hear some of the talking within.  One man took a work call on his mobile, and without explaining where he was, apologised that he couldn't take the call just now as he was with someone.  When he emerged from the hide, he was very much alone.  Ahh, the advantages of not working in the office.

The back remains a bit delicate, so for now I have to avoid any unpleasant bending (as Vivian Stanshall said).

More ruffled in large, as Chamaeleo would say.
