The Watchful Tree

Folk name given variously to the silver birch and aspen, because of the eyes that seem to gaze from these trees’ trunks- formed either by natural bark markings, or the healed lesions left by dropped branches.

Had a hospital appointment today for an MRI scan. Reminded of Robert Macfarlane’s poem about Silver birches on Winterwatch last week.
