Had a walk today around Calf Hey Reservoir, Haslingden Grane, Rossendale. Brrr - the wind was back, with a vengence :-)
Came across this artifact from the past - the inscription reads:
20" Gate Valve, originally installed in Calf Hey Dam in 1856.
So - now you know :-)
