Watching
Many years ago, my boss lined me up to take over his duties as the resident horse vet in the clinic. He forgot to ask me if this was something I was interested in.
I wasn't.
I enjoyed the equine clinical work and I adore horses as animals, but I did not want to be a horse vet.
I wanted to be a cow/sheep vet.
And now I'm a small animal vet.
I still love horses, especially the heavy horses.
I've passed these beautiful Clydesdales often, but have never stopped.
Today, I inhaled their sweet breath, rubbed their velvet muzzles, and provided satisfying ear scritches to all that gathered at the gate. A moment of pleasure with a touch of nostalgia.
