Red Rubber Bands

I pick up these red rubber bands just about every day - I have quite a number of them. I don't know why the posties have to drop them. I read an article a while back about the number of bands that the Post Office gets through and the cost of them. What alarmed me most though was the potential danger to animals and birds. So I'll continue to pick them up whenever I see them.
