Life's Little Moments

The Huntress

The afternoon sun was moving ever closer to the west and I was starting to lose hope that I'd have a chance at a proper photo today.  And then, out of nowhere, in she came - this beautiful female Coopers Hawk.  She sent small birds scattering in all directions, including into the thick branches directly below where she was perched.  Sadly, her energy was wasted and she left empty.  I hope that she has better luck soon.  Although it is difficult to see a hawk take down another bird, I realize that if she isn't successful hunting she will never survive the winter, never have a chance to become an adult hawk with her own nestlings to feed, never dazzle with her speed an agility.  She has been hunting in our yard several times recently so I have to think that she's had some success.

Hubs and I took Jax for a walk in the park.  Although the temps were only in the 20's, there were lots of people out walking, many with dogs.  We let Jax greet a couple of dogs (including a gorgeous, huge Great Pyrenees) but most of them we let go by.  He has to learn that not all dogs are his friends.  And we are continuing to work on getting him to be better on a leash.  He still pulls like a draft horse which isn't pleasant for anyone.  Happily, he is passed out in my office now, having happy puppy dreams.

Hubs visited with his mom today.  Covid numbers are going down quickly now so the facility has lifted some of the visiting restrictions.  Let's just hope we get a few months before the next variant comes along.

Dark with ginger today.
