From the cloud forest

Rhododendrons are generally said to originate in the Himalayas. But today, when I visited the Australian National Botanic Garden in Canberra, I found Rhododendron viriosum in full flower. This is one of only two species of Australian rhododendrons. Both grow naturally in cloud forest at heights of 1,000 metres above sea level in northern Queensland. This link gives some detail.
