Diary Of A Young Naturalist

Just finished this wonderful book. It explores the natural world through the eyes of Dara McAnulty, an autistic teenager coping with the uprooting of home, school, and his mental health, while pursuing his life as a conservationist and environmental activist.
It is a moving, unflinchingly raw, lyrical and incredibly eloquent memoir, mostly in the form of diary entries - and astounding to consider that most of it was written before the author's fifteenth birthday!
I love the cover design of the book too. It's by a London-based freelance designer and illustrator called Nathan Burton, who works in publishing and illustrated books as well as designing book covers.
His designs are so vivid and full of colour. He has confirmed that a lot of his inspiration comes from printed ephemera of the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's - items such as matchbook covers, luggage tickets and packaging. He finds the simplicity and directness of their designs very appealing. There are some fantastic examples of his book cover designs on his website.
