Filling the brown bins
Feeling cold again today and mostly cloudy but still dry. The bins get emptied tomorrow - green and brown. Green is for general waste heading to landfill. It's on a two week cycle. Brown bins take garden waste for composting and are collected 4-weekly from March to November. Both (all three, actually - we have two brown bins) were almost empty this morning.
There's not much general waste here and, since acquiring the field, there is now more space for our own composting. However, the field has revealed a fair number of things we'd rather be without - items of rubbish of all descriptions have been dug out; rusty metal, broken plastic, discarded building materials and buried wind blown detritus. So, accumulated piles of this rubbish were quickly dispatched to the green bin.
Ivy doesn't compost easily and there's loads of it here. So, much of the afternoon was spent gathering and chopping it up. Both brown bins are now full of the nasty stuff! Unfortunately, there were no obvious blips here today. But, as evening approached, the sun broke through the clouds and offered this pre-sunset shot of Arran - not as clear and calm as Friday's but, hopefully acceptable.
