Look Down....

A trip to Southend this morning for a spot of shopping, and then lunch at Wimpy!  And the new paving at the entrance to Southend High Street ( from the Southend Central railway station end! ) has finally been finished.  On first inspection it does look extremely bleak and grey and not worth the alleged £4 million that was paid to 'improve' the area.  But looking closer, there is a central circle that features  old scenes from across Southend, taken from the museum collection, that have been etched into the paving so it was drawing lots of interested looks from passers by, well the elder ones anyway!  The younger people didn't seem too bothered by it all!  This is a view of the seafront when the old boating lake used to be there - not anymore! - and made for interesting viewing!

They're still missing benches and flowers that used to be in the area so we wait and see if they get put in at a later date! I do wonder sometimes what council people think when they come up with these grand schemes! They rarely seem to tally with what locals want!
