St Marks Church, Colney Heath
I was driving through this village today and stopped to look at the church, which I've never really noticed before. It is perhaps a little more visible from the road now as the avenue of trees leading from the road to the church has been heavily cut back.
The church was apparently built in 1844, at about the time that Colney Heath became a parish in its own right. Beyond that, I've not been able to discover much about it, but I did find the external staircase leading up to the tower rather unusual. The four arches on the outside of the staircase, each reducing in height because of the slope of the balustrade, are quite a feature, and have been adopted as a kind of logo which appears on some of the church notices.
