Today is my Chinese Little Mom’s birthday! She is 89! She is the mother of my best friend in Beijing and all of China, Didi. Didi was a visiting teacher through the AFS Intercultural Programs teacher exchange when I was a volunteer in Indianapolis in 1992. Didi spent the first two weeks of her 10 month stay with our family because her first host family was on vacation when she arrived, so we had many “firsts” together. Most importantly, we bonded as if we were sisters, born of different parents. All these years later, we remain as close as ever and are waiting for covid restrictions to end so we can visit each other again.❤️
