Bridget Riley at the LightBox
Today we went to the LightBox art gallery at Woking to see the Bridget Riley Exhibition. I have not visited this gallery before ( opened in 2008) and we are very impressed. I have always liked Bridget Riley’s work and we have been to various exhibitions of hers including the big one at the Hayward Gallery in early 2020 , this exhibition is smaller but is well presented and has good notes next to each picture plus a good online guide that you can read on your phone as you go round ( or listen to if you had headphones with you!) Bridget is 90 this year , an amazing woman still producing new work. I watched a very good programme about her recently on BBC2 called Painting the Line which I plan to rewatch this evening. It is interesting to hear that although she designs all the works she has a skilled team to actually do the painting/ screen prints.
This work from 1991 is called High Sky, 25 colours combine to create a rhythmic field of brightly coloured shapes.
