Rock squirrel
Well it was good while it lasted. It was still sunny this morning, and fairly warm, but a winter storm has moved into the whole southwest region now and after a fierce cold blast of rain and hail the temperature here has dropped to barely above freezing. We're having to change our travel plans because there is snow in Bryce Canyon, which is higher than where we are now in Zion and is expected to have 6 inches of snow tomorrow. So we'll have an extra day here in Springdale and an extra night in Page.
But Zion Canyon and the whole Zion area are beautiful and good for wildlife. This rock squirrel along the uppermost trail was used to people and easy to photograph.
I'm trying to learn the plants of the area - if anyone can help me identify these I'll be very grateful:
some sort of pea
paintbrush
penstemon?
wallflower?
