More home: 180 degree turn
Today's photo in the tour shows the new cabin (the silver one) from which this photo was taken. Today we are standing on the deck of the study looking south-south-east over the rest of the property.
In the background you can see my boundary fence along the road and my drive - and maybe just make out my neighbours' place beyond that.
From left to right:
Through the kowhai tree the far white object is the insulated shipping container which is my cool store;
The white oblong in the foreground is a raised bed with bird netting over it;
The guest cabin;
The drive with my car in it, beyond which is the paddock with the tunnel house (more of that in a few days' time);
The new cabin;
In front of the new cabin is the fire pit, the chook run and mower shed (closest to us).
This view has changed quite a bit since I moved here because I constructed the tunnel house in what was an overgrown paddock, and also I commissioned the new cabin, which arrived in the winter of 2019 to provide me with a sun-filled living room and bedroom (all in one space).
Prior to its arrival there was a large open-sided shed in its place which had no discernable purpose, but which was in one of the sunniest spots on the property. With some ingenuity I dismantled and demolished the shed single-handedly. It was a proud moment when I heaved on a long rope and the roof creaked, swayed and then whooshed onto the lawn with a great "thwump"!
The whole place is much softer than when I arrived: there were a few young native trees here which have grown considerably, and I have planted more than 100 in the last five years. In addition I've added the herb bed and a couple of herbaceous-type borders.
How are those notes coming along? ....
