Life's A Gas

Interesting night adventures. We set out yesterday evening to do aurora hunting as there were several reports of gorgeous northern lights seen in southern Finland. However, the sky was overcast our way and we gave up. Returning to our cottage at midnight my wife proposed that we turn out the outer lights and check once again the sky. 

As in a miracle, suddenly an awesome play of northern lights started above our heads - large holes had appeared in the cloud coverage. I started snapping pictures, some with placing the camera on the snowy ground and directing it straight upwards. One of the best aurora borealis shows I have ever witnessed. Check also the extras to see the various forms that the northern lights appeared.

And all these taken from the cottage yard despite the previous attempts during the two preceding hours in all the known viewing locations. And also that these were taken in quite a bright moonlight..
