Witten Era

The Witten Era of Oakland basketball is drawing to a close. Here is a “by the numbers” look at their time. 11 years for them playing. Seven my fortune to have coached. Seven years…a chapter over 1/10 of my life. Wins…no idea. Losses…? Bus miles, many thousands. High games: Cora 29, Grace 24, Elle 25. Quotes and poems handed out after practice…400-500. State playoff games…4. State tournaments…2. Miles of athletic tape for fingers, thumbs, wrists, knees, and ankles…500+. McDonald’s dinners on the road after games…probably 80. Victory dances in the team room…quite a few, but never enough. Laughs…a million. Tears…a thousand. Granddaughters…three. Love for them…one.
