The flip side of SNAKES & LADDERS.
I made a snakes and ladders board for Lorenzo when he was 5yrs old, to help him learn to count. It seemed a pity not to use the reverse side of the board, so I did a food version game, where you go forwards if you land on healthy food and go backards if you land on Junk food. It is great to see them so pleased about landing on broccoli or a carrot.
Now Lorenzo is 8yrs old, we play woth 4 dice and complicated rules but today it was the turn of Alessandro who is only just 5yrs old and a beginner. He can already master two dice, which is pretty good for his age.
The greatest lesson of all, which is the most difficult to learn, is how to be a good loser and not cheat. It takes time but we are gradually getting there. After 3 years of regular use, the board is becoming chipped but I am very pleased that the kids are playing with a game that didn't come out of a blooming packet.
