NOT A SHAG

There were birdwatchers at the Marina who told me they were there to see the Shags and a Red-necked Grebe (which didn't show up), but my book says that this is a Cormorant in summer plumage. As it and its pals weren't ringed, unlike the usual winter-plumed residents, I wonder whether they'd been blown in from warmer climes on the strong wind that was making it difficult to stand up today. There were several, and they were exploring the locality, flying past the Trincomalee (extra) and taking the best positions on the cormorant roost.
