Farewell

Saturday 12th February 2022

I was at the cathedral today for the thanksgiving and farewell service for Rt Revd Paul Bayes as he retires from being Bishop of Liverpool. It was a very moving service, especially at the end when he laid down his pastoral staff, his cope and mitre were removed and he walked alone down the full length of the cathedral as the choir sang and the congregation were asked to remain in silence. The West doors were opened wide, he went through and then they were shut with a bang behind him. Very symbolic, very moving. Now we await the appointment of a new Bishop.
