Sally Mair - Loving life

Soggy Sunday

No it's not another liturgical feast simply an apt descriptor of the weather today!
I stayed home with mum this morning while Colin went to church. We had a lazy day. I had a notion to make a lemon drizzle cake today, not something I've done before. My recipe calls for 250g each of butter, sugar and flour as well as 4 eggs. It then told me I needed a 1lb loaf tin and even gave the measurements. Now I know you shouldn't mix units of measurements but I couldn't bring myself to try to fit over 750g, which is the best part of 2lb, of ingredients into a 1lb tin and then allow for the cake to rise. I used a 2lb tin and it was perfect! The cake was yummy too. Moist and sharp but not soggy.
I popped out to Aldi after it was cooked, to pick up a pair of their 14.99 sheepskin slippers. It seemed a very good deal and I need a new pair.
By the time I got back, Katy and the girls had arrived so we tucked into the cake, it got the thumbs up from the girls. They were in a very boisterous mood today, poor great nana was quite exhausted I think. It's the start of their February half term so they're looking forward to a mix of fun at holiday club and with mum and dad who are taking some days off.
A quiet evening for us I think tonight, catching up with some tv.
Keep safe folks and keep testing.
