The storm passed through
And left a trail of destruction; at least to trees. Like this one, seen on my afternoon jog. Even in our relatively sheltered situation, branches were blown off some trees..
This particular tree, beside the Rimutaka-Huia path as it emerges on to Huia Road, lost a lot of branches. This was arguably the largest, and almost blocked the steps up to the road.
The protest (so-called) in Wellington continues, with no clear idea being presented of what it is that they are protesting about. They already have the right to refuse to have the vaccination. They can buy food, and shop in most other places; certainly for essentials. We can assume that they want to be able to behave as if they have been vaccinated. Which seems more than seeking freedom of choice. It is actually infringing on the rights of others to be not exposed to the risk of infection.
Posters encouraging people to vote for Trump for President in 2024 make no sense until one realises where the financial support has come from. Financial support (which allegedly included everyone in the convoy getting a $500 petrol voucher) has it roots in white male supremacy movements in the United States. Or is this just a conspiracy theory also?
The rejection by even these few hundred persons of the social contract is what disturbs me most.
