Palace

We met a friend in Soho Square at 2:30pm to head-off on a trial of one of his London history walks. It was themed The Big Gay Walk and looked at the history of some of the famous - and not so famous - LGBT places around the West End.  It was a nice loop that started in Soho as the most northern part of the stroll, East to Charing Cross, Parliament Square was the most southerly point and this view, at the Palace, the most west we got and we arrived as the sunset on the day. Here it was noted that none of the, admittedly very few, same sex Heads of State from somewhere else in the world has ever stayed. I imagine that is bound to change. It was a really interesting walk that I hope he is able to add to his growing collection of fascinating insights into London’s history.   My tracker say it was a full three and a half miles and took us the same number of hours.

We were last here almost a year ago, probably at a similar time of day, but it was much less busy because most of London was still closed and, those of us that ventured in for some reason, found a strangely quiet town. There were other tours and plenty of people around today although I note, as last time, none of the Royal Family seem to be home.

Afterwards, we had drinks in The Yard which seems to get busier and more expensive anytime I visit but was full of expectant energy early on a Saturday night. Dinner was at Cote Brasserie and was absolutely lovely and considerably more relaxing.
