Maruia Falls.
Maruia Falls showing its force after the recent rains the falls were formed after the 1929 Murchison earthquake of 7.8 magnitude which diverted the river to a dried up river bed and after the quake the falls were just 1 metre high. In the following five years the height increased to five metres and by 2000 it was 10 metres.
The last time I stopped here three kayakers were riding over it, all three survived which they probably expect to whereas I expected them not to!
A good near 300 kms drive to Hanmer Springs today and will "Take the waters" tomorrow!
