Menai
Today we went to Menai and walked under the Menai suspension bridge. Left:looking back towards the bridge. (See map in extra)
We took a path along the water to the causeway to the little island of Ynys Tysilio. There is a chapel, top right, behind which you can see the Britannia Bridge.
The island is covered with a cemetery. The only way on the island used to be an old rather low causeway, bottom right, which was regularly submerged. During services a boy would be placed on watch and if the tide came in sooner than expected, he would shout …” and the congregation, often led by the priest with vestments flapping, scurried indecorously across the causeway to the safety of the mainland of Anglesey” (H Antony)
At the island end of the modern causeway there is a fabulous tree (bottom , middle) a Monterey Cypress from the Pacific coast of California.
Home to a wonderful meal made by eldest son: Burritos! So good with everything made fresh including a great guacamole!
