Taking the biscuit...
...to a whole new level. I attended A Zoom talk by Ella Hawkins, a design historian, author, and artist based in Birmingham. Ella's hobby is baking and icing the most amazing biscuits using various historical references for inspiration. The talk was hosted by the David Parr House, a preserved house in Cambridge lived in by David Parr who was a painter and decorator of the highest standard in the Victorian era. The house is open to the public and the trustees commissioned Ella to design a set of biscuits using some of the interior patterns found in the house. Ella showed us some of the other biscuits she had created using the themes of old books, archeological finds, period costume etc. They were all wonderful and each biscuits involves many hours of delicate work painting on the designs using food colouring gels. My photo does not do them justice as it was photographed during the talk from the computer screen but I have included the link to her 'biscuit' page on her website and also a link to the David Parr house which we will be visiting later this year for a guided tour.
