Iceland - Day 6
Thankfully we woke up to clear skies and calm weather, the gale force wind that raged all day yesterday had finally abated. It was an early breakfast and then we headed off back to Vestrahorn for sunrise, not that we were expecting a sunrise but we wanted the early morning conditions. It was clear and not that cold, but by 10am it started snowing and became misty. This is a scene on the beach as the mist started coming in, this is a colour image but it looks like a black and white image. The first extra is when we first arrived at pre-dawn when it was still the blue hour. At about 10.30am we went back to the hotel, checked out and headed back west to Vik.
On route to Vik we stopped off at Jokulsarlon again to see if the glacier lagoon was now clear of icebergs but no, it was still chock-a-block (second extra). The light conditions were incredible, golden skies with crepuscular rays on the left hand side of the road over the sea, and bright blue skies on the right hand side. The car park at Jokulsarlon was so busy, we were lucky to find a space to park. There were many more tourists and photographers today than on the weekend. We got snacks and coffees for lunch (I had my gluten free sandwich made at breakfast from the hotel) and it was warm enough to sit outside at the picnic tables enjoying the view of the lagoon while we ate lunch.
We arrived in Vik at about 4.30pm, we checked in to our hotel, the Vík í Myrdal, dropped our bags and went straight off to the beach for the sunset. The beach is popular as there are sea stacks just off the beach which are quite dramatic. The light was poor but we still took a few photos, see the last extra.
We had the most delicious dinner at the hotel, we are finding the food to be very good. I enjoyed Arctic Char which is like salmon.
An early start tomorrow, and another full day of photography awaits us.
