Tree planting
Our Keep Kineton Beautiful group took on some tree planting work this morning. As usual - it was surprising how much a few volunteers can achieve in a relatively short period of time.
We put in ~15 apple and pear trees along the edge of the sports club playing field. Fortunately in the calm between storms Dudley and Eunice.
Very appropriate for Joe Tree day!
The ground was very wet which made the digging easier, so hopefully the roots can get themselves established fairly quickly. There are a few other fruit trees in the same area from a previous ~2011 planting session and they look to have done well enough there.
We found it easiest to dig the holes as individuals and then pair up to get the plastic guards over the trees and set them into the ground. In the extra, the two I did with Barry the local church minister, neither of us is a gardener! The green guards had to be passed over the trees from the top which was difficult to do without breaking some of the smaller branches. Spiral wrap types will probably be used in future.
Hope our efforts are not undone by Eunice.
Thanks to everyone who called in on my windmill blip yesterday too.
