Goodbye To All That . . .
It's not only the farmhouses and barns that have been abandoned to greedy developers in farming country in south Georgetown, even the kids are losing their memories. This wonderful tree house, the pride of several generations, will soon will be no more. The area will be immersed in a sea of cheaply-built units, each the mirror of its neighbour, in vast estates bearing names to make Orwell squirm: a marketer's wet dream of gentle streams, wooded slopes and rural tranquility. Ironically, those images were reality before the stormtroopers of progress marched in . . .
Note: DB points out it's not actually a tree house - it's a house on stilts with a tree behind it. Well, yes, perhaps it is, but in summer the tree envelopes the hut with its spreading boughs, so it's a treehouse/house on stilts. So there . . .
