Bath Place
Just round the corner from the Turf Tavern - "an education in intoxication", where Aussie premier Bob Hawke drank a yard of ale in 11 seconds, and Bill Clinton 'did not inhale' - is the rather more elegant Bath Place.
Not that it's short on history itself: from its establishment by Flemish weavers 400 years ago, and as birthplace of Jane Burden (muse for Dante Gabrielle Rossetti and later Mrs William Morris), to inspiration of Dorothy L Sayers' mysteries, and secret rendez-vous for Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.
Tonight must have just been a quiet night!
