Lumberjack

Today I travelled with my brother in law to the summer cottage to fell birches. We need birch wood for the open fireplace as birch wood does not sparkle when burning. We chose five birches growing close to some other ones.

February is the optimal month to fell trees as the trunks are still dry - in order to minimize freeze damage to the trunks the trees "empty" them of liquid the best they can during the coldest months and then fill them up again when Spring breaks.
