Golden Cassia With a Buzz
I was up at 04.30 to watch live Champion's League football this morning and will be up for another match, same time tomorrow, so have been a bit zombie-like today.
It's been rainy much of the day - the upside of which is that it enhances plant photography. So out of a good fistful of pics I liked this Cassia (also called Senna). Their flowers are unusual in that they hide their pollen inside the anther - and so must be buzz-pollinted. This means the bee must grab hold of the flower and then vibrate its flight muscles rapidly to dislodge the pollen.
I think the intricacy of the flowers is fascinating.
