Portobello Beach Edinburgh Day 224

First rain/drizzle for ages. Visibility poor as a consequence. Having read about the winter storms, prevailing from the east rather than the west, affecting the puffin colonies I came across a drowned puffin on the shore this morning. There are large puffin colonies on the islands at the mouth of the Forth. They are much smaller than their illustrations, in books of my youth, suggested. In flight they remind us of their piscean antecedence.
