Old book
I usually post my new books but I’ve already finished this one (on the train on the weekend) and am well into the thriller by Lee Child. This is the third book in our book club which is for March, I haven’t finished the January book and the February book is difficult to obtain. Anyway, this is a book we should read. It was a bit uncomfortable as it shows what’s it’s like for a young Aboriginal girl trying to find her way in life. It is set mainly in NSW and on her journeys looking for her family and identity visits out of way villages and a mission I know from my work in Aboriginal Health. The author has the ability to say a lot in few words. Powerful. The least fluffy book I have read in ages.
My extra is from the launch of our new candidate who is running for the Federal seat of Calare. Many people in Australia are fed up with our stale politicians who represent their party and not their constituents. The Voices groups are locally organised groups of people channeling their dissatisfaction with traditional politics. There were 35 such groups across Australia at the end of last year. Their policies are built on local issues, here they are truth and integrity in politics and climate change action amongst others. It is nice to have someone ‘representing you who is representing you’. Our electorate is very conservative (National Party) but we might make them notice us a bit more in future even if we don’t win this time around. I went to Kate’s launch in Orange 13 days ago, then the launch in Sydney of their local candidate on Sunday and again in Bathurst today. 3 rallys in 67 years. It gives me hope as the current bunch aren’t doing anything useful.
