Blossom

I spotted this blossom in a hedge as I was walking back from town this morning after having my hair cut. I was due to walk with G this afternoon, but had to cancel as feeling slightly under the weather. A nice day here, but more weather warnings in parts of the UK for flooding, snow and lightning - just bizarre weather.

More bad news on Ukraine, and I was appalled by the ridiculously childish comments by our Defence Secretary.

Day 709 / Day 28 Post Plan B (for my record only)
The ONS infection survey of private households to w/e 19/2 shows 1 in 25 with the virus in England (down); 1 in 20 in Scotland (up); 1 in 30 in Wales (down); and 1 in 14 in NI (trend uncertain). The ONS reports that in Jan in England and Wales, Covid was the 3rd leading cause of death. They also reported that virtually all British adults have COVID-19 antibodies. TfL are changing the rule on mandatory mask wearing to ‘strongly recommended’ advise from Thurs (they had little option). More concern has been expressed by several groups including the various blood cancer charities, about the inadequate identification and inconsistent treatment of those most at risk from Covid. Doctors have been advised that patients should wait at least 7 weeks after contracting Omicron to have elective surgery. A study has shown that the 14 day quarantine for arrivals in England in 2020 did reduce the spread of the virus. Boris is now the first British PM to have been ‘questioned under caution’ by the police, after having received (and now returned) a questionnaire over parties during lockdown at No.10. Heathrow reported the lowest number of passengers last year in c50 years. Superdrug has announced it will sell a box of 5 lateral flow tests for £9.79, considerably cheaper than Boots had announced. A protein based vaccine by Sanofi-GSK is currently reporting late stage trial data reporting 100% effectiveness against severe Covid and hospitalisation (against the milder Omicron???)
