My Ship Finally Came In

We've been here just over a month, and I haven't seen one fishing boat unload. Until this morning.

There is a lot going on in this picture. The guy in the forefront is dipping the big net into the bowels of the ship to bring up the catch of herring (a bait fish.) As he brings the net up from the depths, the guy in the rear uses hydraulics to move it to the conveyer, and dumps it. The fish then travel upward into the fish company.

But, besides the two workers, look who else joins in the fun. The pelicans dip down into the trough for the steal, and more pelicans are on the top of the conveyer...watching for fish to spill off of that.

Great fun....until...until...the boys asked me to join the team. In my first extra is Duke, the devil dog. The fishermen like Duke to show up because the pelican poachers stay away from him. Zero pelicans in the shot of Duke.  But, Duke eventually goes off cavorting, and the birds take over. That's where I came in.

"Hey mister, could you come over and stand right where the birds are congregating?"

What was I supposed to say? "No, I can't. I like it when they come and steal your fish." I moved into position, and thwarted the thieving pelicans.

The whole incident brought in a lot of flying birds, so two fliers are also in my extras.

I was having so much fun watching the birds amass,
that I missed the ladies swim exercise class.
