WILDWOOD
Best in Large, (L on keyboard)
Near the pretty village of Newchurch is Martins Wood a new native woodland created in 2001 by planting hundreds of trees to form a bridge between two areas of ancient woodland of special importance for nature conservation. Several species of trees in the new wood echo the natural forest areas including some Scots Pine to provide a food source for red squirrels.
A hazy morning was perfect for my walk through the young forest and into the ancient Lynch Copse seen here which reminded me of the wildwood from the Wind in the Willows. With the hazy sun and slightly warmer temperature it felt almost springlike. I wish I could play you the sound of the birdsong which was all around in the old woods.
There was a definite feeling of nature poised to burst into life after the hard winter.
