The Best laid schemes....

This morning was the last ever meeting of markers for Standard Grade English which after 27 years or thereabouts is being consigned to educational history with the advent of the new examination regime of Nationals 4 and 5. Thousands upon thousands of Scottish 16 year olds have undertaken this exam, part of which required the submission of a folio of work. Highly popular texts within the folio have always been Steinbeck's novella "Of Mice and Men"- that great evocation of friendship, loneliness and the American dream- and the "Scottish Play". For the blip today then we have my own 3/6 Penguin copy of Steinbeck and the opening scenes of Macbeth from a 'Complete Works of Shakespeare
