Funeral music
Yesterday I went to the funeral of my good friend Alan details here. As part of the morris team that he joint started, the surviving morris survivors were asked to play as well as the band that he founded. The funeral was eulogies and memories plus people singing or playing music connected with him. By the time it came to our musicthey had run out of time so we were asked to play outside together with his band.
It was a massed band of 17 musicians playing dance music. Some of the mourners started dancing - it was an amazing experience. We noticed that the funeral directors were taking a video, I bet they've never know a funeral like it!
Afterwards we went to a pub when of course it developed into a massive session. It was a great send off for him - he would have loved it.
One of the other morris founders came up from down south and we had an evening with her and the old morris members who couldn't make the funeral. We did a lot of reminiscing and it developed into another session of course. I got home at midnight.
