St Mary Le Strand...
...with St Clement Danes in the background. There has been a church on this site since at least 1222, but this church dates from the early 18th century. It has been a traffic island for a century or two. In fact there was once a proposal to demolish it to make the road wider. Today, the traffic on the south side is being diverted and the land converted into a pedestrian area with some plants and seating. In the middle of the works, the King Edward VII post box (extra) has been carefully preserved.
