Moribund.
What a brilliant word! (At the point of death, without vigour) used to describe the stems of a rose that have become very woody and are no longer producing active shoots. This is such a stem which I started looking after a year ago. At that time I was very careful with pruning the active parts and not cutting into the moribund wood so, to see shoots like the one pictured, is both exciting and pleasing. This years pruning has been harder so that these shoots can strengthen and then become the new framework for future years.
Had a lovely but messy to eat dinner with RF this evening and, being Friday, I started falling asleep before coming home, my bad!
