A very grey start
I was at the nature reserve early today, to plan out some new fencing for our volunteer group to work on during the day. This was the view across the valley from the ex-arable fields that are being turned back to chalk grassland. In the foreground is one of the chalk scrapes excavated to create ideal conditions for some of our rare invertebrates, especially butterflies like Chalkhill Blue, Small Blue and Silver-spotted Skipper. This work is all part of the Wildlife Trust's Chalk Grassland Project. We are all waiting for the summer to see how our re-seeding has worked.
