Lucky escape?

I was halfway to work today when I got a phonecall to say that school was closed, due to the weather forecast. Very annoying, especially as I had some marking I'd been planning to bring home and do over half term, but thankfully I'd had the foresight to snaffle everything else I needed for planning and lesson prep over the holiday.

It was definitely windy (a gust of 63mph was recorded by our local weather station at 11.35am) but this was the worst 'damage' we experienced from Storm Eunice. Although there were several fallen trees in the roads around us and many fences down - and countless Facebook posts and pictures to prove it - there weren't any reports of injuries, so that was something, at least.

There were several power cuts and the water supply was completely cut off in East Grinstead for a few days but thankfully we weren't affected. It certainly sounded like a lot of people had a very bad time, though.
