Chapel of the Bones

On my walk this afternoon I came across this - beside the church in Pechão.
At first I thought these white things were shells, then I thought they were rounded stones - finally I saw that they were actually bones and there were places where skulls would have been placed.
I don’t know the story yet but I’d like to find out.
