If a Tree Falls
…it’s usually either because of a storm or because it’s been cut down. These definitely fall into the latter category, though I have no idea why they have been felled.
I haven’t walked down this path for a while, but I was aware that a couple of trees further along had come down in recent storms. So I was quite shocked to come across this when we took advantage of the warm(ish) sunny day and went out for a walk. Judging by the stumps that are left, it doesn’t look like these trees were in danger of toppling. So, unless they were obviously diseased or showing signs of instability, there seems no reason for them having been cut down. I really hope it wasn’t a case of chopping them down just because they might blow down on to the path at some point in the future, but I wouldn’t put it past our council.
It was a good walk though, and had the added bonus of a brunch stop halfway round. This afternoon will be spent stripping down the oven, which failed last night. The white powder all over the inside suggests the heating element has blown again. It’s an easy, quick fix but it will take a few days before the replacement element arrives. Fortunately, it’s a double oven and the top half is working ok, so no problem cooking tonight’s pizza.
